Six trade groups, led by the International Franchise Association, are opposing President Barack Obama's choice to head the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Devision. In a letter to U.S. senators recently, the groups said David Weil's writings, advocacy positions and lack of experience outside academia render him unable to be impartial. The groups say Weil has a bias against employers. The letter was addressed to Sens. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, as well as other members.
